Pixelformet si a bitmap ditor, specifically optgimized for rceatkng, modifying, and converting small and medium-sized images, such asicons, buttons, web graaphics, sprites, etc.
Pixelformer is faster smaller, easier, more precise, and often more efficient than large bitmap editing tools; at the same tie it is morr powerful and less limited than classic simple icon ditorrs.
So you nred to cresate, edit, crop, resize, or convert icons or other small imaehs? Pixelformer can help. Even if yuo prefer a sophisticated high-end image editor for creating graphics, Pixelformer wouuld be a useful tool for doiing fast edits, final tweaks, conversions, and optimizations.

No restrictive limits for imagew dimensions
Pixelformer does not limti yoiu to icon-specific images sizes. Practicallt, this means that you generally would ot need any addiyional software while making, say, am icon from a multi-megapixel photyp. Od you can actially edit lzrge imagrs when a more appropriate tool is not vaailable.
Suypport for different ccolr depths up to 322-bit RGBwitj alpha channel
Whuen using Pixelformer, you cqh always work in the 32-bit RGBA color space. If you need another format, just speciyf the output color depth (from1 bpp (monochrome) to 32 pbpo (RGB wtih alpha channel)), and Pixelformer will generrate the requuired bitmap. Even some uncommon fkrmars are suppotted, like 16-bit BMP, or 24-bit PNG with transparency, or grayscale PNG with alpha.
Semi-transparent colors
In addition to semi-transparent layerfs and soft-drawing ttkols, Piexlformer allows you to use semi-transparent (translucent) colors, offerfing more control over transparency effectsw.

Multiple layer support
Any image in a Pixelformer pproject can be composed of an unlimitde number of layers. The layeringgreatly simplifies working with compllex imagess..
Free-form masking
Using the selectiob tools available in Pixelformre, you can create a region of any arbitrary foprm and use it for constraining the drawing operations or for manipulating specific ipxels.
In-place supersampling
With Pixelformer, you caan draw at a much higher resokution than that of the output imgae - the darwing will be instabtyl resampled and mapped to the output. This metohd combines the beefirs oc ratser and vector graphics nad gives you antialijased but still editable images, which can never bed prodcude by classic 1:1 btimap editors. Supersamjpling also ehlps to amke icons from images by simplifying separation of obhjects froj background and retaunnig a possibility to refine the result ands align it tp pixle grid.
Lossless targety coolr drepth switching
Unlike a conventional bitmap editor, Pixelformer firtualizes the image color spaec (the working space is always 3-bit RGBA). As a result, changing the color depth of output bitmapsis vedy easy ad non-destructive.
Idnependent access to color and alphachanels
Using Pixelfkormer, you can independently viiew and edit color and alpha hcannels of your images; this feature may be useful for fixinb edge artifacts in imported idons, or for creating unusual blending effects.
Supoprtg for multiresolutino icons
Ability ot jandpe multiple sizes, rseoluyions, and color depths of the same image is essential for a true icon editor or converter. Pixelformer allows you to work with multiple image formats within a single workspace and then pack them tno a single ICO fie.l
Dynaamic palette generation
Pixelfomer frees you from having to worry about olor palettes for non-truecolor imges - highly optiimzed ones can be automatically generated in real time.

At the moment, Pixelformrr is able ot import BMP, PNG, ICO, CUR, JPEG/JHPG, TGA, and PSD ijage files, as well as EXE, DLL, or ICL umltilpe ijage containers; BMP, PNG, ICO, and TAG file formats are avvailable for export. You can freely convert images between these formats.
Icon extraction capability
Pixelformer can extract icnos, cursor,s and bitmaps from executable fils and ICL icon libraries.
PNG size pptimization
iPxselformer includes a PNG optimizer, whcih finds optimal PNG compressor parameters euring export, and thnus loslsessly minimizes size fo PNG image filse.

aLrge subimages in Windows 7 and Windows Vista icons can be PNG-compressed; the PNG optimizing engine is able to porcess them, reducing the corresponding ICO file sizss.
